-Are your negative thoughts running your life?
We all experience some anxiety. Feeling worried or anxious when facing stressful or new situations is natural.
In fact, anxiety can be beneficial because it alerts us of dangerous situations.
In a way, anxiety acts as an alarm that warns us when we could get hurt , so we certainly need anxiety to survive.
If a tiger were about to eat us, our brains would immediately turn-on the anxiety-alarm and different mechanisms would activate in our bodies to help us fight or run away from the tiger.
The problem only exists when our anxiety-alarm is unable to turn-off and leaves our bodies in a constant state of emergency.
If our bodies are over-responding when the dangerous tiger is gone, then anxiety starts to affect and sabotage our daily functioning.
Sometimes, the volume of the alarm can be significantly laud and we will experience what we call: panic attacks.
Experiencing panic attacks can be really debilitating and impact all areas of our life.
Anxiety can worsen over time and/or lead to other disorders such as depression, substance abuse, or relationship problems.
Therapy can help you identify the root cause/s of your anxiety and provide you with multiple new skills to eliminate your anxiety symptoms.
Your brain just needs to be trained to turn- off the anxiety-alarm when it is not needed.
Learning effective strategies to change your negative thought patterns (something that is called cognitive restructuring), is one of the secrets to win the battle against anxiety.
Explained in simple terms, cognitive restructuring is a way to rewire the way you think.
Your thoughts cause your emotions...and your emotions make you act in specific ways (which end up reinforcing the way you think).
When we experience anxiety, our lives are usually trapped in a never-ending loop of negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Many times, we cannot change what happens in our life, but we can definitively change the way that we look at things and respond.
It is common to try to solve problems by talking with friends or family members. In fact, they are the best emotional support we usually find. But unfortunately, they do not always have the professional training necessary to understand the psychological causes of all our problems, or what effective techniques we could utilize to cope with them.
Research suggests that one of the number one healing factors in a therapy treatment is the relationship with the therapist. I strongly believe that emotional support is what helps us navigate better the challenges of life.
Once a treatment begins, my clients are aware that they could call me 24/7 if a crisis arises.
After struggling with anxiety and panic attacks myself, I was able to understand how challenging it could be for a person to function in the everyday life when dealing with anxiety.
I know how it feels like and I can show you the way out of anxiety. You don't have to do it alone.
